Forgings flanges and fittings

What are Flanges & fittings?

Flanges and fittings are parts that connect pipes. Flange joints connect pipes with flanges to which the connecting pieces are bolted together. Flanges are generally raised rims or lips on fittings, but many flanged plumbing fittings themselves are known as flanges.

Forging

A forging process involves compressing metal using localized forces to shape it. It is either a hammer or a die that delivers the blows. A forge can be classified as cold forging, warm forging, or hot forging based on the temperature at which it is performed

The stainless steel forged fittings are a family of high pressure fittings that are welded into the pipework system by circumferential socket welds. In addition, these SS Socket Weld Fittings are available in the same size range as ANSI Pipe.

Is stainless steel forged for a reason?

The heat and corrosion resistance of stainless steel makes it a popular material for forging. Forging typically uses stainless steel types 304/304L, 316/316L, and ferritic.

The stainless steel forged fittings have a class grading of 3000, 6000, or 9000 based on the maximum pressure they can withstand. Schedule 80/XS pipes require class 3000 fittings, schedule 160 pipes require class 6000 fittings, and XXS pipes with thicker walls require class 9000 fittings.

Steel is arguably the most widely used material in construction and manufacturing worldwide. According to the end use of the steel component, a variety of steel grades have been developed, each with a unique chemical composition.

Steels such as carbon steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel socket weld fittings are used in a wide variety of consumer and commercial products. Stainless steel grades offer advantages in creating a wide range of products.
