There are two types of ASTM A335 P91 Alloy / ASME SA335 P91 Pipe. Type 1 and type 2 are the two types. Most of the time, type 2 is used. Major components include carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon, 8% chromium, and molybdenum. The composition contains more alloying elements in smaller quantities, including vanadium, nitrogen, nickel, aluminum, columbium, titanium, and zirconium. ASTM A335 P91 Alloy is the standard for the pipes. However, forged or bored pipes can also fall under A369.
Material ASTM A335 P91 Alloy Pipe is used in power generation, gas processing equipment, boilers, heaters, and reheater lines, as well as in most oil services. Pipes must be preheated before welding. For these pipes, post-baking is also an option. After welding, the material must also be cooled below 100 degrees Celsius.

Astm A335 P91 Alloy Steel Seamless Pipes Characteristics
In terms of strength and temperature resistance, P91 is a chrome moly alloy metal with excellent properties. The material is designed to have enhanced creep strength, making it a creep strength enhanced ferritic (CSEF). In order to manufacture this metal, it is normalized at 1050 °C, cooled by air to 200 °C, and then tempered by heating it to 760 °C. The main reason behind the creep strength and durability of P91 can be seen in this process. This metal has a composition of 9% chrome, 1% molybdenum plus vanadium, which is known as P91. There is an increase in temperature strength and oxidation resistance due to the chrome. In addition, the molybdenum increases the elasticity, resistance to wear, and creep strength of the material at high temperatures. There are a few more characteristics of ASTM A335 P91 Type 2 that should be noted:
