By using this composition, the material can withstand high temperatures and high pressures. ASTM A335 P12 Alloy Alloy Steel Pipe has a minimum yield strength of 205MPa and a minimum tensile strength of 415MPa. Heat treatment can also further harden it. Normalize and temper, full anneal, and isothermal anneal are the methods used. 

ASTM A335/ ASME SA335 P12 Pipe is composed of carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon, 0.8% chromium, and 0.45% molybdenum. There is a maximum carbon content of 0.015%. Welding is easy due to the low carbon content. However, if the pipe is going to be welded with high carbon pipes or other steel materials, then the A335 P12 Pipe must be preheated and then heat treated after welding.

As a result of the manufacturing process, the pipes are seamless and can be used in oil and gas, petrochemicals, petroleum and other high temperature and high pressure applications. Welded pipes of the type A335 P12 are used in welding applications where they have a higher level of dimensional accuracy compared to seamless pipes of the same type. A number of schedules are available in this material grade that correspond to the wall thickness and the outer diameter of the material, such as schedule 20 through schedule XXS. It is possible for P12 Seamless Pipe to be produced in various shapes, such as round, square, rectangular, and hydraulic shapes.
