DETAILED INFORMATION
Sulfur-bearing gases attack the alloy above approximately 700 degrees Fahrenheit, and molten sulfur attacks it above approximately 500 degrees Fahrenheit. The alloy can be used in a variety of applications, and is also resistant to rapid flow of brackish water or seawater.
The aluminum pipe fittings are highly resistant to hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids when deaerated. In the chemical, oil, and marine industries, the alloy is slightly magnetic at room temperature.
Generally, annealing these Aluminium Elbow Butt Weld Pipe Fittings at 1850 degrees F / 15 minutes (1010 degrees C / 15 minutes) will produce soft material. The material will remain soft after a brief exposure to 1900 degrees Fahrenheit (1040 degrees Celsius).
In moderate temperatures, these Aluminium Tee Butt Weld Pipe Fittings are resistant to attack by sulphur compounds, but they are susceptible to sulfidation at high temperatures.
Using molybdenum di-sulphide, a lubricant sometimes used for parts assembly, is not recommended if the material will be exposed to temperatures above 800 degrees Fahrenheit (427 degrees Celsius).

Aluminium Buttweld Fittings Advantages
Despite the harsh conditions in which they are used, buttweld fittings can withstand high pressures and temperatures. Regardless of the industry for which they are required, they are generally considered to be the most robust welding fixtures available on the market. It is important to note, however, that these systems do take a considerable amount of time to install and that a highly skilled installer is needed to weld them correctly.
- – A weldable connection offers a more robust, a stronger and a more leak-proof connection when compared to a plugged one.
- – As a result of the continuous metal structure, the overall piping system is much more robust due to its added strength.
- – The smooth inner surface and gradual directional changes provide the flow within the pipe with a smoother flow, thus preventing pressure drops and turbulence from occurring.
- In addition, we offer a variety of different turn radiuses due to our ability to manufacture Short Radius Fittings, Long Radius Fittings, and 3R Elbows with various different turn radiuses.
- – As a result, they are cost effective when compared to the counterpart fittings in the threaded or socket weld types.
- In addition to having a long service life, they are cost effective to purchase and deploy, and they can be deployed quickly.
- It is widely known that buttweld fittings are more resistant to corrosion and erosion than threaded and socket weld fittings.
- An advantage of a welded system over the other alternatives is that it takes up relatively little space.
Manufacturing:
A buttweld fitting is manufactured through the process of hot or cold forming, which means that it is bent and moulded to the right shape by the process of bends and moldings. It is also necessary to heat treat them in order to remove residual stresses and achieve specific mechanical properties in them.
It is necessary to bevel the ends of buttweld fittings, and the exact shape of the bevel is determined by the thickness of the wall of the pipe to which the fitting is being attached. A buttweld fitting can be made of a variety of exotic materials, such as super duplex steel, nickel alloy steel, or molybdenum steel of 6% by weight. In most cases, the material of the fitting is similar to that of the pipe system that it is welded to, which means that they are made of the same materials.
Fittings made with buttwelds are defined in ASME B16.9 standards, with light-weight corrosion-resistant fittings made according to the MSS SP43 standards for light weight and corrosion resistance.
It is important to note that these valuable fittings are available in a wide range of shapes, depending on the intended use:
- – Pipelines are installed with ‘elbows’ in order to alter their pathway
- – When reducing or increasing the bore size of a pipe, there is a need for ‘reducers’
- In the pipe, ‘Tees’ or ‘Crosses’ are used to split the flow of water in a variety of directions
- – In the event that the pipeline needs to be closed off, ‘caps’ are used.
Aluminium Buttweld Fittings Dimensions
The dimensions of aluminium butt weld fittings can vary depending on their type, size, and schedule. Here are the standard dimensions for some common types of aluminium butt weld fittings:
- Aluminium Elbows: An elbow is a pipe fitting that changes the direction of the pipe. The most common angles for aluminium elbows are 45 degrees and 90 degrees. The dimensions of these elbows can vary depending on their size and schedule. For example, a 2-inch Schedule 40 aluminium elbow with a 90-degree bend has a center-to-end length of 3.5 inches and a wall thickness of 0.154 inches.
- Aluminium Tees: A tee is a pipe fitting that allows the flow to branch out in two directions. The dimensions of aluminium tees can also vary depending on their size and schedule. For example, a 2-inch Schedule 40 aluminium tee has an outside diameter of 2.375 inches, a center-to-end length of 3.5 inches, and a wall thickness of 0.154 inches.
- Aluminium Reducers: A reducer is a pipe fitting that connects pipes of different sizes. The dimensions of aluminium reducers depend on the size and schedule of both the inlet and outlet pipes. For example, a 2-inch to 1-inch Schedule 40 aluminium reducer has an outside diameter of 2.375 inches on the larger end and 1.625 inches on the smaller end, a center-to-end length of 3.5 inches, and a wall thickness of 0.154 inches.

Aluminium Buttweld Fittings Temperature rating
Depending on the specific alloy composition and temper of the material, the maximum temperature rating for aluminium butt weld fittings varies. In general, aluminium is a good conductor of heat and has good thermal stability, which enables it to be used in applications involving high temperatures because of its good thermal conductivity.
The temperature rating for aluminium butt weld fittings can range from approximately -270°C to approximately 650°C, depending on the alloy and temper of the material that the fitting is made of. As a result, it is important to keep in mind that the maximum temperature rating of a product can also vary based on other factors such as pressure, environment, and duration of exposure.
Here are the temperature ratings for some common grades of aluminium alloys:
- There is a maximum continuous operating temperature of 204°C (400°F) for 6061-T6 steel
- In terms of operating temperature, 6063-T6 can be operated at 204°C (400°F) for a continuous period of time.
- There is a maximum continuous operating temperature of 121°C (250°F) for the 5083-H111.
- The 5086-H32 operates at a maximum continuous temperature of 93°C (200°F).
- It is recommended that the 7075-T6 be operated at a maximum continuous temperature of 93°C (200°F) for a long time
In order to determine the appropriate temperature rating for your specific application, it is essential that you consult the manufacturer or supplier of the specific aluminium butt weld fitting and ask for their advice.
Applications:
It is possible to use buttweld fittings in a wide range of industries to alter, divide or end the flow of fluids in a variety of ways. The following are a few examples of these operations: waste treatment facilities, chemical processing, breweries, petrochemical facilities, cryogenic plants, paper production, gas processing, and even nuclear power plants. This wide range of applications illustrates the robustness of a buttweld fitting and how heavily relied upon this particular type of fitting is by many industries.
